(Hong Kong, Apr 13, 2015) DYXnet, the leading Greater China’s ICT (Information and Communications Technology) service provider, is pleased to announce today that the company has been named one of the awardees of the Web Accessibility Recognition Scheme. Co-organised by the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO) and the Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC), the scheme aims to commend companies that have adopted effective website and mobile apps designs in order to enhance accessibility by everyone including people with disabilities. Representatives from DYXnet, together with nearly 200 participating companies, attended the Web Accessibility Recognition Scheme Award Presentation Ceremony on April 13, 2015.

Wallace Ng, Co-CEO of Network Business of DYXnet remarked: “According to the Feature Article, Persons with Disabilities and Chronic Diseases in Hong Kong from Hong Kong Monthly Digest of Statistics published in Jan 2015, there are around 580,000 disabled people in Hong Kong.  In addition, based on the figures from the Census and Statistics Department in mid-2014, there are over 1.5 million people aged 60 or above in Hong Kong.   Given the combined elderly and disabled population has exceeded 2 million, it is imperative for all enterprises to consider participating in the Web Accessibility Recognition Scheme so as to allow easy accessibility for this population when they search for information via the internet. It is simple for us to make some adjustments on our website, but to those in need, this will bring a highly pleasant search experience.  As a socially responsible enterprise, we hold a strong belief in ‘From society, to society’. By “web accessibility”, it is not only about how a website can be “accessible” by search engines, but also about how designs of a website can suit the needs of everyone regardless of who they are or how they access the internet. It also specifically addresses the needs of, including but not limited to, persons with disabilities and persons with specific difficulties such as the elderly and persons beset with color-blindness, cognitive and physical issues such as dyslexia, epilepsy, etc. To become one of the Web Accessibility Recognition Scheme winners, companies need to meet all 14 judging criteria to provide basic web accessibility features to the above-mentioned parties.
